Adi Shankaracharya established this temple at Badrinath. He walks 3000 km from South to North and established this temple at this town. He stayed at this place for 6 years and established this temple in the 9th century. As per the legends and Vedic Puranas, Nara and Narayana were sons of Lord Vishnu who set up this place as their hermitage for meditation. Though the temple is open during the monsoons till November, it is not recommended to visit the place in these seasons as there is a danger from landslides.
