Chittorgarh is a fort city in Rajasthan with many temples, monuments, and ruins. It is known for the Chittorgarh fort. Chittorgarh is a land where there has been a violent history of wars of the Rajput. This places in Rajasthan has a grim history, but the Chittorgarh forts and the monuments attract tourists to this city. Chittorgarh tourism is all about the forts, temples and haunted places. History Of Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh has faced many battles from the Mughal emperors who ripped the city of its beauty and attacked the fort for as long as they were in India. Many Rajput kings fought against the mogul emperors like Alauddin Khilji, Bahadur Shah, and Akbar to retain the essence of Rajput dynasties that ruled through various centuries. Chittorgarh is synonymous to famous historic people such as Rani Padmini, whose beauty enticed Alauddin Khilji. Meera Bai, Maharana Pratap, and Pannai Dhai lived in this city in various eras.

Chittorgarh Fort

Chittorgarh tourism is incomplete without visiting the famous Chittorgarh fort. Situated on a high hill, Bhim of the Pandava dynasty from the Mahabharata epic built started to build this fort. This is a mammoth fort with many passages and monuments that bespeaks of tragedies through centuries. Chittorgarh Fort is one of the largest forts in Rajasthan.  This fort has been ravaged by many Mughal emperors which were once a magnificent fort with a planned design and architecture.

You can visit this Chittorgarh fort between 6 am to 8 pm. It is open all days and you can take a tour of 3-4 hours inside the Chittorgarh fort.

Chittorgarh Fort Rani Padmini

Rani Padmini was the legendary beauty and the Queen of this fort. A Bollywood movie is based on the beauty of Rani Padmini called Padmavathi by an ace director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. Rani Padmini was the wife of the king of Chittorgarh, Ratansen. A musician in the court of Ratansen was also a sorcerer. He was banished from the kingdom after the Ratanasen came to know of his evil deeds. In vengeance, the musician instigated Alauddin Khilji and make him known about the beauty of Rani Padmini. This started the war between Ratansen and Alauddin Khilji who visited Chittorgarh to view the beauty of Rani Padmini and captured Ratansen in a deceptive plan. To protect herself from being dishonored by Alauddin Khilji, Rani Padmini self-immolated herself on the pyre of her husband Ratansen.

Jauhar was the term used for self-immolated. Along with Rani Padmini, many other women of Chittorgarh committed suicide through self-immolation to protect their dignity from the lustful reign of Alauddin Khilji after defeat. This is a land of bravery as well as strategy. It depicts the tragic yet eternal love story of Rani Padmini and Ratansen. This is the place where Rani Padmini committed Jauhar and is said to be haunted. Rani Padmini jumped into the Kund and immolated herself.

Chittorgarh Fort Haunted

Also known as the Rana Kumbha Palace is said to be haunted. This is the place where along with Rani Padmini several women committed suicide. It is said that screams are still heard inside the fort and is one of the spookiest places in India. This fort speaks of bloody tragedies and mayhem through wars through the history and rules of the Rajputs.

Kalika Mata Temple Chittorgarh Fort

Inside the Chittorgarh fort is an 8th century old Kalika Mata temple. Goddess Bhadrakali is said to be the goddess of Mori Panwar clan. This temple was originally the temple of Sun god and located across the palace of Rani Padmini. It was destroyed by Alauddin Khilji. Later the temple of Goddess Kali was built here.
