The current head of ISKCON is Swami Jayapataka from Wisconsin who was a disciple of A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. He graduated at the age of 16 but left his studies after a few years in search of a spiritual guru. After coming to India, he was introduced to Hare Krishna movement and joined ISKCON. Since the time he met Swami Prabhupada at Canada ISKCON, he had been involved in services devotedly. He spent a lot of time in Kolkata, India to preach the teachings of Hare Krishna to people and building temples, and getting involved in services.
Nobody owns the ISKCON temple. It is a religious organization that is managed by its devotees all over the world. This group is known as Governing Body Commissioner which is the authority next to Swami Prabhupada. All the ISKCON temples all over the world are managed independently.
ISKCON was founded in 1966 by Swami Prabhupada which follows the Gaudiya Vaishnava cult. He preaches the essence of Krishna consciousness to the devotees of ISKCON which is now followed all over the world. Swami Prabhupada was known as Abhay Charan De and was born in Kolkata on 1st September 1896.
Lord Krishna is an incarnation of Hindu god, Lord Vishnu. Krishna means ‘black.’ Lord Krishna was the eighth son of King Vasudeva, whose other seven children were killed by the cruel king Kamsa. King Kamsa could not kill Lord Krishna when he was born. Later Lord Krishna imparted great wisdom to the world in the form of Bhagavad Gita. Lord Krishna is the supreme god of the universe who is in a constant state of transcendence.
Hare Krishna is not a religion but a movement and a part of Hinduism based on the principles and spiritual beliefs of Hinduism. Hare Krishna movement can be adopted by people of any religion and caste all over the world. Every devotee who follows the Hare Krishna movement has to adopt the tilaka on the forehead. Hare Krishna movement teaches the philosophy of soul, sin, salvation, and higher wisdom. The rituals followed in the movement are a part of Hinduism.
When someone says Hare Krishna it means they are devoted to the services of Lord Krishna and that they are devoted in the prayers of Lord Krishna. It also signifies that they are a member of ISKCON and have devoted their lives to the services of Lord Krishna.
Hare Krishna is a maha-mantra of the Vaishnava sect. It means “He who is attractive.”It signifies the love for Lord Krishna. It means it is a lord who has supreme and loving qualities that the devotees inculcate. It is a mantra that glorifies the qualities of Lord Krishna.
